Diane Evans

 Biography
Diane Evans is a fiber artist from Schenectady, NY, who has been creating contemporary art quilts since 1998. She has a Master's degree in Advanced Classroom Teaching and spent nearly twenty-four years as a high school mathematics teacher before retiring in 2004; her background in mathematics has been instrumental in planning and executing intricate quilt designs and has even served as inspiration for much of her machine quilting.  Her quilts have been juried into regional, state, and national shows, and she has received awards at all three levels. She also has quilts in several private collections and recently completed a corporate commission for four wall quilts that will be displayed in the Eddy Village Green assisted living facility in Cohoes, NY.

Diane’s machine-pieced and appliquéd constructions are layered with cotton batting and backing and are then machine-quilted with rayon threads to add dimension and sheen.  Her designs reflect a passion for color, and her fabric palette includes commercial and hand-dyed fabrics that are bright and playful.  She is deeply inspired by music and elements of geometry; radiating motifs are used to create rhythm, the use of symmetry brings harmony, and dramatic machine-quilted curves add lyrical movement.
